Now on its forth console, this
version in the DOA series is sure to please all
who try it out! Dead or Alive 3 was first shown
at TGS 2001 to a suprised crowd. Tecmo had a
killer lengthy video of this puppy looping and it
was said to all be in real time motion. In
certain parts of the video, the quality of the
visuals was so impressive particular sequences
could easily be mistaken for pre-rendered CG
scenes. The demo starts with a panoramic shot of
a waterfall, followed by a picture of a rotating
clock that moves closer to the camera and
shatters upon impact. Then the video spans to a
wicked cool fight between Hayabusa and the Hulk
Hogan wannabe, Bass. Then the video moved through
different scenes showing off lots of
environments, and character profiles of each
fighter. In one cool scene, we see Ayane in a
lush, green field with birds flying overhead and
flowers protruding through the thick grass. Then
the camera spans to Hayabusa performing kata on a
city street surrounded by large buildings and
assorted Japanese signs and drawings.
Once that was over, the camera
moves to a different scene showing a couple of
characters new to the series. The first character
shown is a young fighter wearing bright orange
and yellow clothing. He is shown carrying a
crimson gourd and using the drunken-boxing style
alot similar to Virtua Fighter's very own
Shun-Di. The fighter walks out onto a new level
based inside an icy cave. While he walks over
some icy patches, his reflection is shown and is
distorted into nice shadow effect that looked
amasing. The next new fighter iwhich is shown in
the pictures to the right, is a silver haired
female wearing a silver spandex jumpsuit. She is
shown performing kata in a black and white marble
courtyard under the full moon. There was a
misterious character that is never shown in
action, but two brief appearances in the clip is
interspersed in between the action sequences for
the other characters. His outfit is engulfed in
flames and he is wearing a samurai mask and armor
made of highly reflective steel or metal. I have
full reason to beleve this may be the new boss
character.
One thing that really hit me
was the fact that everything on each stage was
set in full real-time nature. All the items were
highly detailed and could be useable dudring a
battle. Even simple things such as seagulls
flying over head or small back ground things like
rock formation look amasing. It was easy to tell
that Team Ninja was given a whole lot more to
work with since moving to the X-Box for
production of the series.
Dead or Alive 3 is exclusive to
the Xbox for an unspecified period following its
release and is currently planned for release at
launch.I'll be the first to say that this game
will be in my X-Box come launch day!
